Ask anyone who has spent their student years in the fabulous German capital whether they would recommend the city and the answer will almost certainly be yes. Whether you are looking to attend a world-class university, live in a truly multicultural city or revel in an electric party scene, Berlin offers everything a student might want and much much more. Check out our reasons for why we believe Berlin offers an unbeatable student experience below.
1. The Universities
When you first consider where to study, you obviously start by looking at the universities themselves. Fortunately for you, Berlin has some of the best universities in Europe, if not the world.
Humboldt University of Berlin is one of the oldest universities in the city and the second largest. The university boasts over 40 Noble Prize winners and is particularly highly rated for Arts & Humanities.
Free University of Berlin is one of Germany’s most renowned universities and is most famous for its research in the fields of humanities and social sciences as well as the natural sciences.
Technical University of Berlin. As its name suggests, TU Berlin is a leading institute for innovation and technology. It offers a number of highly-ranked engineering programmes, most notably in mechanical engineering and engineering management.
Berlin is also famous for its large expat community. The city is a melting pot of cultures from all four corners of the globe. With a bit of effort, it is easy for foreigners to integrate into German society. And if you ever feel homesick, rest assured that there are countless expat meetups, events and parties that will help you feel right at home.
3. The Parties
For many students, a city’s nightlife is often an important factor in determining where they choose to study. In Berlin, you can spend your university years enjoying some of the world’s most vibrant, frenetic and occasionally bizarre nightlife. Here are a couple of options to get you started:
Salon zur wilden Renate is one of our absolute favorites. It has a bohemian vibe and you will find an eclectic mix of revelers partying through the night to world-renowned DJs.
Tresor is one of Berlin’s most famous techno clubs. The club is located in a renovated power plant in the heart of the city. Renowned as one of the best nights in town, this place will keep you coming back night after night.
Our two suggestions are just the tip of the iceberg. But we guarantee that you will have an absolute blast discovering the rest!
4.Cozy cafes to study in
Berlin is not just great for partying but is also overflowing with lovely cafes. So, if you struggle to concentrate in your student dorms or university library, then grab your books and laptop and head to one of these great cafes:
Bonanza is both warm and inviting in equal measure. It is an ideal retreat for coffee-loving students who take their cup of joe seriously.
Betahaus is a cafe that doubles up as a creative space. Besides coffee, the cafe also serves breakfast and lunch, allowing you to really focus on your studies without too many interruptions.
The two places are excellent both for hanging out with friends and studying for your classes.
These are just a few of the things that make Berlin one of the best student cities in Europe. If still not fully convinced, we highly recommend you come and check it out for yourself. We are sure you’ll be smitten in no time!
